The On-Hire survey is performed just before the commencement of a vessel’s new chartering period whereas the off hire survey is carried out upon its completion. The aim of this type of surveys is to have a clear picture of the existing quantity of bunkers on board as well as of the condition of the vessel’s structures before and after the chartering period.
The On/Off Hire survey is required on type of vessels whereas the Condition survey is required mostly on bulk carriers, where charterers and ship owners needs to have an extensive report on the visual conditions (damages, rust, missing coating, bended and scratched areas, other) of all cargo holds, hatch covers, machineries on deck, hull and other structures. Part of the survey is to collect and check all the relevant documentation too. This will allow ship owners and charterers to establish whether or not any damage took place during the chartering period.
